Advanced Korean Rhinoplasty
Every nose looks different and it is important to realize that there is no one-set formula for every rhinoplasty. Ideally, plastic surgeons in Korea will aim to achieve a similar result to Nose Lift where you have a straight and high nose with more definition. Understanding the details on advanced rhinoplasty techniques would be unnecessary. Instead, "what type of nose do I have?" and "what is the ideal shape that I hope for" is a more proper question to throw yourself. Here are some popular rhinoplasty types in Korea.
- Bulbous Nose Rhinoplasty
- Hooked Nose Rhinoplasty
- Deviated Nose Rhinoplasty
- Short Nose Rhinoplasty
- Long Nose Rhinoplasty
What is great about having surgery in Korea is that Korean plastic surgeons have performed numerous surgeries similar to your case. As they probably understand what you desire, it is the doctor's job to determine and recommend what method should be used for your specific case, and it is your job to make a final decision. Understand the differences between them and remember that you hope to get it right in the first surgery. Revision rhinoplasty is always unpleasant in terms of a long recovery time, and adding more damages to the tissue should be avoided or minimized. All of the surgeries listed above are quite common in Korea, and there are many excellent rhinoplasty specialists for them. Regardless of whom you end up choosing, you always want to put "looking natural" as your priority in your plastic surgery journey.
Advanced Korean Rhinoplasty Cost
USD$5000-$8000. Usually, advanced rhinoplasty is more expensive than "Nose augmentation" surgeries or Nose Lift. However, it is still much cheaper than countries like Singapore, Australia and America as you can see from the Korean plastic surgery price table. In general, anything "addition" (i.e. augmentation surgery) is less expensive than anything "reduction" (i.e. reduction surgery). Make sure your fee includes everything related to the surgery such as the surgeon's consultation and surgery fee, anesthesia fee and after-care checkup fee.
Advanced Korean Rhinoplasty Quick Facts
Quick Facts | Double Check |
---|---|
Hospitalization | Generally no, but in some cases, yes. When the nose surgery is complicated, the doctor will use general anesthesia. In this case, you might be advised to stay at the hospital on your surgery day. |
Stitch Removal Day | 7-10 Days after surgery. Most of stitches are removed within 7-10 days, and you want to plan your trip accordingly. Seoul TouchUp advise against leaving early for your home because there is always a probability of something unexpected happening. |
Anesthesia | In most cases, Local Anesthesia & Sedation, and in some cases, General Anesthesia. Although you can choose to pass general anesthesia, the doctor might recommend general anesthesia because you will be able to really sleep through the whole operation. This will be decided after a face-to-face consultation with the doctor. |
How long is the operation? | Between 1 to 1.5 hours. However, there will be a surgery-preparation time and after-surgery recovery time. You want to take the whole day off for the surgery when you are traveling in Korea. |
Advanced Korean Rhinoplasty Recovery
You will need more patience in seeing the final surgery result because it will take more time for the nose to get natural after an advanced rhinoplasty in Korea. Here is an approximate recovery timeline :
- It may take 2-4 weeks for the swelling and bruises to disappear.
- It may take 4-12 weeks for the nose to look natural in person.
- It may take 6 months - 12 months for the nose to look completely natural, even in pictures.
Playing high-impact sports like baseball and tennis must be avoided for 4-6 weeks, and needless to say, more intense sports like swimming and sky-diving must be avoided even longer - for 6-8 weeks. You want to be more conservative about this timeline but it might be a relief for you that after the stitches are removed, you can return to work or school in 7-10 days. Traveling is also okay but you always hope to avoid any strenuous activities.
1. Bulbous Nose Rhinoplasty
There are maybe two reasons why your nose look bulbous : your wide nose bridge or nostrils. If the upper part of your nose is wide, it will create a dull and flat look. This kind of look tends to give a weak impression on others. If the lower part of your nose (nostrils) is wide, it can create a greedy or an angry look. This also draws some unwanted attention to the bottom of the nose.
As for the wide nose bridge, the doctor might suggest rasping the sides of the nose bone. As for the wide nostrils, alar base reduction surgery can be operated to reduce the size of the base. This nose reshaping technique is similar to the one that is applied to black people, but Asian cases are also uniquely different. In Korea, this type of nose is not rare, so you will be able to find great Korean rhinoplasty specialists who have a great range of experience in bulbous nose shapes.
2.Hooked Nose Rhinoplasty
Hooked-nose rhinoplasty is perhaps the most difficult rhinoplasty of all. If the hump is minor, a quick rasping of the hump is performed. If major, the doctor even could use an implant to fill the hole on top of the nose. Sanding the nasal bridge requires a high level of expertise. If performed by an unexperienced surgeon, the surface could end up being bumpy and not smooth. In fact, Seoul TouchUp has seen many customers who came to revise their previous hooked-nose rhinoplasty because of the uneven surface of the bridge. Whether born with the "deformity" or got it by an accident, after surgery, you will need some time to get accustomed to the straight nose.
3. Deviated Nose Rhinoplasty
Truth be told that no one has a perfect facial symmetry between the left and right sides. Some Korean celebrities do have a great symmetry, but it is very likely that even they complain about how uneven their facial symmetry is. Actually, the dissymmetry starts from your nose. Being the center of the face, if the nose is pointing not straight towards the bottom, but sideways, it may create a deviated nose look. In general, there is no great solution for this type of deviated nose, because it is not only caused by the shape of the nose, but also by the shape and structure of face.
There is another kind of deviated nose, which is caused by deviated septum. For this, Septoplasty or Deviated septum rhinoplasty can be operated to fix this problem. It is likely that the patient also has some functional breathing problems as well. Spend enough time with the doctor during your consultation in Korea as even complex deviated septum cases can be enhanced to a great extent.
4. Short Nose Rhinoplasty
Having a short nose or piggy nose is not really ideal, and unappealing in the sense that you are exposing too much of your nostrils. Yes, it is true that having a slightly upturned nose can be charming and cute. Perfecting the degree of tip rotation is crucial and Korean plastic surgeons have spent a great deal of time to find the right formula. For men, it is aesthetically proven that the ideal degree of tip rotation for men is more or less 90 degrees whereas for women, it is a bit higher, 95-105 degrees. Usually, short nose rhinoplasty involves the use of an implant in Korea similar to Korean nose lift. This type of nose is more common in Korea than the West, so you will be able to have an experienced doctor who understands your concerns.
5. Long Nose Rhinoplasty
If your nasal tip extends down to the bottom too much, you may consider long nose rhinoplasty. Long nose rhinoplasty is an advanced rhinoplasty that requires considerable experience as well. Although this type of nose is not always unappealing, as you age, it may make you look older than you are. Also, if the tip is protruding downward substantially, it may negatively affect your side profile. It might look too flat or sometimes it could look like a "witch". You can adjust the angle of the nasal tip by reshaping the cartilage and this will also expose the area between the nose and lips. This may make your face look long vertically, so having a nose that looks proportionate to the face and in harmony with the face is always most important.
