Blepharoplasty Recovery Time – Important Information

Korean plastic surgery is leading the pack as it is viewed as practical matter in a very competitive world. Most Koreans believe that having a perfect face is the key to success. This has made Blepharoplasty surgery very common. It is a procedure done by surgeons to alter the lower and upper eyelids appearance. If the procedure turns out successful, it results to youthful, rejuvenated and alert eyes. Every surgery has a recovery time where patients are advised to rest for quick healing. Understanding Blepharoplasty recovery time is important for anyone thinking of going for the surgery. This will enable him or her make necessary arrangements at work and with the family.

Eyelid surgery requires a patient to be under anesthesia. This enables the incision of the eyelid's natural fold and tightening of the skin to done effectively. Any fatty deposits are removed as well by the surgeon. The whole procedure lasts for approximately 1-2 hours. The incision is sealed with a surgical tape or sutures, depending with the surgery invasiveness.

After the surgery is done, a patient is then transferred to the recovery room for a couple of hours. To minimize the swelling bandages and compresses are usually placed loosely on the patient's eyes. The patient is kept under observation for several hours before he or she is discharged. The patient must be accompanied home by a relative or friend. However, in some circumstances a patient may be required to stay overnight.

First few days

In the initial days after the surgery, the patient experiences complications such as eye swelling, redness, dryness or soreness. Lubrication drops and pain relievers can help in alleviating these symptoms. On the other hand, continuous clod compresses will help reduce the discomfort of tightness and swelling around the incision region. Sleeping with the head elevated is recommended for patients.

The 1st week

Reading, driving, watching television, working on a computer or doing any task that is strenuous to the eyes is highly prohibited for the patient. The patients should also wear dark sunglasses when going outside. Surgeons warn patients against bending, crying, exercising or undertaking activities that may strain the face.

2nd week

After the 1st week, a patient is supposed to go for a checkup and have the stitches removed. During the 2nd week, the patient can engage in small exercises and activities and take naps to minimize eye strain. If the doctor sees an excellent progress in the patient, he or she can be allowed to resume work after 7-10 days.

Following weeks

Based on how the patient is progressing, the medical doctor may allow the resumption of moderate activities 3-4 weeks after surgery. However, patients are cautioned against chores requiring enhanced flow of blood to eyes and exertion. By this time, the redness, irritation and swelling ought to be gone, the eyes may once again feel normal.

Tips on good eye care

Doctor's instructions on when and how to clean the eyes and the surrounding area must be followed.
If excessive dryness or tearing is experienced after the surgery, the surgeon may recommend eye drops for lubrication. These artificial lubrication drops may help relieve itching or burning sensation.
Protect the incision with a powerful sun block. Let your surgeon recommend the best sun block to use.
