Hi,

I plan on getting v-line surgery to fix a crooked jaw line/chin.  I also need braces to correct crooked teeth.  I'm just wondering if braces will make my jaw crooked again after getting v-line surgery.  Can that happen?!

Hi KelleySmile I don't if this helps but I had braces for 2 yrs and they took out 4 teeth which made my jaw recede/smaller so I think maybe you should ask first if that will affect you or which one you should do first...

Hi, I saw an orthodontist and he didn't seem to think it would be a problem. Still nervous, though. He didn't seem to think I would need to have any teeth removed. Maybe that's a good thing? That you for your response.

I personally would recommend getting braces first, just because braces straighten your teeth and depending on how bad the alignment is, they can also affect the appearance of your jaw. A large, "less v-line" jaw might actually be due to the way your teeth sit in a neutral position, but again, that depends a lot on your current dental anatomy.

I've read that you can get v-line while having braces, but I'm not sure an orthodontist would feel comfortable adjusting your wires and brackets if you are in the recovery process.
