Hello! My name is Esra Sinem Taner, and I'm a junior level undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying medical anthropology as well as premedical studies. I'm an aspiring plastic surgeon, and I'm heavily interested in analyzing and publishing research on the ethnography regarding cosmetic surgery and medical tourism in South Korea. I'm endeavoring to accomplish this by earning a $6,000 Burch Fellowship through the Honors College at my university.
.....owships-2/ This is the Burch Fellowship information link.
I recently read the fascinating New York Times Article regarding this international business by Alexandra Stevenson. I think that there is an unfortunate stigma surrounding plastic surgery and I want to elucidate the multifaceted beliefs regarding health and behavior, aesthetics, medical choices, and medical tourism in a country that has a reputation for these procedures. I would like to travel to South Korea this summer to interview both plastic surgery patients and physicians through your agency from different social positions to learn, record, and publish their perceptions and motivations behind the surgeries. I believe that this research experience would help to me become a greater, more compassionate surgeon one day. I can finance my entire trip and housing. I am genuinely interested in observing this renowned agency, and I believe that my publications could generate massive attention and even attract a greater customer base in the populated portion of the United States where I reside. If you have any interest in this project or require additional information, please contact me at etaner@live.unc.edu. Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Esra Sinem

Thank you for your post and your kind words. We appreciate that you are considering us for your project, and we wish you the best for the scholarship and your endeavours.
However, as it is part of our company policy, Seoul TouchUp is unable to help with school-related projects nor other research. In this case, we believe it would be beneficial for you to contact the Korean government (Korean Tourism Organization) - .....o?cmd=main , who will be very cooperative in your research. As a whole, Korea has been very supportive with medical tourism, and you will surely gain deeper insights from the KTO.
Also, with regards to your interview enquiry, we are unable to provide much information there as there is a lot of confidential information from customers that we are to protect. Some media companies might provide such information under certain conditions, so you may find it beneficial to start your investigations there.
We thank you again for your interest and trust in Seoul TouchUp, and we wish you all the best and hope to see the next Beverly Hills cosmetic icon in the future!
