Does It Matter Where Your Surgeon Gained His Experience?

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Asian Eye Surgery, Asian Plastic Surgery, Eye Lid Surgery, Korean Eyelid Surgery, Korean Plastic Surgery

Choosing the right surgeon for your procedure will likely be a journey with many bumps on the way. However, people tend to choose surgeons based on the number of patients that they have worked with in the past, and the reviews that they have gotten from those patients. But there is a lot more to choosing the right doctor than just relying on what other people have said about him, especially if the other people do not share your cultural background. Every surgery is always designed to fit the specific needs of the patient, so if your doctor isn’t familiar with the structure of your body and the features that specifically represent you and your culture, you may not be in the experienced hands that you think you are.

YOUR SURGEONS BACKGROUND AFFECTS THEIR STYLE AND PERFORMANCE

Every profession requires a certain amount of knowledge about the country and the culture that the practitioner will end up working in, and this may be especially true when it comes to plastic surgery. Depending on where a surgeon has received their education and how familiar they are with the prospect of their future patients, the results of their procedure will follow accordingly. As an Asian patient hoping to receive any kind of plastic surgery done right, you will need to focus on how well your potential surgeon is familiar with your own cultural background.

There are many wonderful universities and specialty programs all over the world when it comes to training and educating future plastic surgeons. But each one of them has their own curriculum of education, which has been specifically adapted to fit the area of the world where the patients will mostly come from. This doesn’t mean that surgeons are automatically categorized into those who are good are those who are bad, but more on the lines of how well they are equipped to handle specific patients.

background-affects-surgeon-style-performance

Take the Korean eyelid surgery as an example. Suppose that you want to have a plastic surgery done on your eyelids that will create a bigger look to your eyes. Because you are already starting out with an Asian eye style, the procedure will also need to be planned out to reshape your particular style of eyes into a bigger look that will still remain true to your own culture and national background. This means that your surgeon must have the adequate knowledge to not only know how to make your eyes look bigger, but also the detail of what your eyes are like in their natural state. What this mostly has an effect on are the incisions that will be made on your eyelids in order to create the extra crease. If a surgeon does not posses this previous knowledge, they will not know how to plan the surgery properly. Even worse, they may use the style that they would usually use on a Caucasian eye for example, which would instantly give you very different results, and in many cases, not the result that you were hoping for.

Now imagine how important this difference is for more complex procedures if so much though must be placed into something as relatively simple as a double eyelid surgery. Each bigger and more complex procedure would, in the hands of someone who does not have enough experience in your cultural background, start with many smaller mistakes which would build up to a procedure that was actually meant to be made on someone else. This is true for everything from facial augmentation, to dental surgeries and liposuction. You may think that the human body is composed of very universal features, but the truth is that each body is entirely dependent on the part of world that it was born in, and the genes that have been passed on to it from previous generations. So when you embark on finding the right surgeon, think of all these things before you make your final choice.

SURGEONS TAUGHT IN KOREA ARE ADVANTAGEOUS FOR ASIAN PATIENTS

This does not mean that every surgeon that is trained in Korea will automatically be the best one, because there are of course still other variables that must be taken into account, but it does mean that they will likely be especially well-suited for patients who are Asian. With its worldwide popularity as the top destination for plastic surgeries, Korea has focused a lot of attention, and a lot of financial support, into training the best surgeons possible. And if you happen to be Asian, then you have an abundance of great surgeons to pick from. Because plastic surgery is a very open topic in Korea, and one that people are in no way ashamed to talk about, doctors have the freedom to be very open with their patients, and to explore ways in which to structure surgeries to specifically fit the needs of people from Asia. Korea is also well-known for its fantastic medical tourism opportunities, which are supported by a large number of travel agencies who specialize specifically in organizing plastic surgery travels plans for patients who are coming to Korea to have something done. However, patients aren't the only ones who benefit from such well-designed travel plans. Doctors also benefit from these options because they are able to get in touch both with the patient and the travel agency if needed, and to set up the perfect time for a procedure to take place. This is very different from having to travel to other countries that do not offer these options, because patients are often left to plan everything on their own, and they do not have a support system to fall back on, or ask anyone else to organize it for them.

WHAT IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD A TRIP TO KOREA?

Regardless of how well designed and planned Korean plastic surgery is, the bottom line is that it still requires a certain budget in order to be used to its full potential, and this is something that may people simply cannot afford. Luckily, just because you cannot afford a trip to Korea doesn't mean that you cannot enjoy an experience that is very similar to it. What is does mean, however, is that you will need to do an additional amount of research in order to ensure that you find the best doctor possible as close to where you currently live as you can.

The first thing to look for is of course someone who has received all, or the majority of their training in a Korean institution, because they will likely have the best techniques specifically for Asian patients. Additionally, it is also a good idea to look for a surgeon who is also Asian, because they have an understand of your culture better than any foreigner ever could, regardless of how much thought and effort they would put into such a feat. Someone who is as close to your own background as possible will be able to complete a plastic surgery in a way that will not change you for who you are, but that will only remove your insecurities and make you better. Many patients overlook the importance of national identity when it comes to changing their appearance. But while this may not seem like something that you think would affect you in the beginning, in the long run, it could cause a lot of emotional pain and confusion.

Looking for a doctor close to where you live should be done in the same way as you would if you were actually going to Korea. Additionally, try to find someone whose patients are mainly from Asia, or even better, someone who hasn't spent a lot of time working outside of Asian countries. The longer they work in a Western environment, the more likely they are to be influenced by the new culture, and the style of their procedures may also change accordingly. While these may all seem likely very high requirements for a doctor, and ones that can never really be achieved to perfection, remember that plastic surgery is not something that is done frequently. Ideally, one great procedure could be enough for the rest of your life.

How Plastic Surgeries Are Planned By Your Doctor

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Asian Eye Surgery, Korean Breast Surgery, Korean Plastic Surgery

Patients often spend a very long time planning their own surgeries, in the sense that they try to pick the best possible clinic, the best doctor, and the best procedure for their needs. But they often find that the story can change quite a lot once they enter their consultation appointment with their surgeon. Surgeons have a very different way of looking at your procedure of course, and it is worth mentioning that understanding their point of view can really help you to understand what is going on and what you can do to improve your plastic surgery experience.

HOW YOUR BODY IS EXAMINED BEFORE SURGERY

A healthy body is very important for the surgery to go well. Although some procedures do not require a particularly high level of health, more serious procedures have a very complex recovery period, and your body needs to be prepared to handle the healing process. Having this is mind, the current health and overall state of your body is the first thing that your surgeon will examine before even booking your plastic surgery date.

healthy-body-important-plastic-surgery5

You should be prepared to provide a blood sample and perhaps also a urine sample at the start of your check up. These results can give the surgeon exceptionally detailed information about your body, including your blood’s coagulation period, which measures the time it takes for your body stop the bleeding and begin to heal wounds. Although most people pass this initial phase without any problems, if you happen to get really bad results you will likely be refused for surgery at this time, until you get better. If this does happen, take your doctor’s advice very seriously and do not push to have any surgery done if the surgeon doesn’t feel that you can handle it.

There are also additional checkups that may be made, such as the current state of your respiratory organs and skin, including anything else that may have a negative effect on your body both during and after the surgery. It doesn’t take long to finish with this stage, but it is essential to ensure your safety.

HOW A SURGEON PLANS WHERE THE INCISIONS WILL BE MADE

The plan of the incisions is based on how well they will allow the surgeon to access an area inside your body, how they will change the look and feel of your skin, and how visible they will be once they heal. Although not all three of these requirements are needed for each procedure, they are part of the standard surgery plan and will be thought out in as much detail as possible. You may have also noticed that doctors often draw directly on the patient’s body during the consultation period and right before the surgery. This is a great method to allow the surgeon to have a visual representation on how the incisions will look and how big they need to be. This is especially true for procedures like Korean breast implants, which vary greatly according to the shape of the breasts and the size of the implant that will be inserted. It takes quite a bit of time and preparation to do all this, because incisions are very serious things to do on a person’s body, so a really great surgeon will make sure to plan them out in as much detail as possible.

HOW A SURGEON KNOWS WHICH PROCEDURE IS THE RIGHT ONE FOR YOU

Patients often have the feeling that they have an abundance of procedures to choose from when they get an idea for a new look. However, the truth is that each procedure is conducted differently for each patient, and there may even be procedures that will either not be advisable for you personally, or that will not give you the results that you were hoping for.

The final decision depends on what your body looks like before the procedure has been done, because you may not need to undergo a complex procedure in order to get small changes made. So for example, if you wanted to change the shape of your nose and you think that you need to have a full nose surgery, your doctor may feel that all you really need is a nostril reduction in order to achieve it. Surgeons have a lot of experience behind them, and they can envision the final outcome of a procedure much better than a patient can.

Your doctor may also spend some time checking your skin and your bone structure in that particular area, so that they can get a sense of how much work needs to be done in order to achieve the final look. The more effort that a surgeon puts into familiarizing themselves with the current mental state of your body, the more likely they will be to prepare for the procedure accordingly, which will be great for both of you.

HOW SURGEONS IN KOREA PLAN DIFFERENTLY FROM OTHERS

Plastic surgeons in Korea have, for quite a while now, been thought of as some of the best surgeons in the world, and this is especially true for Asian patients. The extent of the advancements and innovation that has been put into plastic surgery in Korea, and that fact that people can have very open conversations about it means that it has become an environment where plastic surgery is seen as something completely normal. This understanding that comes from the Korean society has enabled both doctors and patients to achieve wonderful changes in a stress-free environment, and one that does not scrutinize them as some other countries in the world would. Korean plastic surgery has become a favorite for patients from other nationalities as well, but it is specifically Asian patients that can benefit from it the most.

Surgeons who are based in Korea, and especially those who have received their entire training there, are far more equipped with the knowledge to help patients from the same region than any other surgeons in the world. Cultural background is very important when it comes to plastic surgery because it dictates how the procedure will be carried out, since it is very important that the person’s appearance does not change from their own nationality. This isn’t set in stone of course, and there are some patients who really wish for a big physical change. However, many people really want to remain true to their heritage, so whatever surgery they decide to get must correlate to where they are from. This is more difficult to achieve for patients who live very far from their home country, because it will be difficult for them to find the right doctor for the job.

THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP THE PLANNING PROCESS

Regardless of how experienced your doctor is, your contribution as a patient can really help speed things along and provide the doctor with invaluable information about who you are and how your body has changed over the years. If you are opting for a younger look, for example, then you may want to bring in some old photographs of yourself from a period where you were happy with your appearance, because this will provide your doctor with a great reference point to start from. Additionally, do not ever lie to your doctor about your medical history as this could seriously have an effect on how your plastic surgery will turn out. Doctors are not judgmental of your past. Their sole purpose is to make you feel better and to give you the best possible advice to achieve a happy lifestyle. Be as involved in the planning process as you possibly can, and do not shy away from asking any questions that you may have. Good preparation comes from both sides, and although you will allow your doctor to make most of the technical decisions because of their expertise, you will quickly notice that doctor’s really appreciate a patient’s input as well, because it helps them plan the procedure more adequately, and to personalize it specifically for you. Always choose a doctor who knows what they are doing, but also one who will explain everything to you as well.

You Can Be Turned Down for Plastic Surgery

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Asian Plastic Surgery, Facial Bone Surgery, Korean Plastic Surgery, Plastic Surgery News

Plastic surgeons don’t really have a reputation for turning people down when they wish to undergo a procedure. While most people think that this is entirely due to financial reasons, the truth is that most people wish to have very traditional procedures done that are nothing out of the ordinary, which is why they are generally very easy to get. But there are still quite a few cases where the surgeon may express serious concerns towards your plastic surgery choice, to the point where they turn you down and refuse to do the procedure. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, instead of feeling angry towards to doctor, take a moment to think about their reasoning and why someone in the plastic surgery profession would decide that you are better off not having it done.

Is Plastic Surgery Reversible?

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Asian Eye Surgery, Asian Plastic Surgery, Facial Bone Surgery, Korean Eyelid Surgery, Korean Plastic Surgery, Medical Tourism Korea, Plastic Surgery News

Plastic surgery is one of the most popular ways to alter your appearance to something that you will feel comfortable in. It has provided millions of people with a new start and with a much more comfortable life. However, there may be times in a person’s life when they wish to reverse the procedure and go back to their previous look. There are many reasons as to why someone would choose to make this reversal. Although it may in some cases be because they are not happy with the way that the procedure turned out in the long run, it is usually because they wish to make another change, or because they would like to go back to their natural appearance. To the surprise of many people, this is something that many plastic surgery procedures are able to do.

YOU CAN REVERSE ALMOST ANYTHING, BUT NOT TO THE SAME EXTENT

Technically, all plastic surgeries are reversible to a certain extent, or perhaps entirely. It all depends on the complexity of the procedure and how much of your original look was altered. Simple procedures like Korean botox, are entirely reversible because they disappear on their own. This is because it is a procedure that isn’t permanent to begin with, so the botox that was injected in your skin gradually disappears. However, other simple procedures like eyelid surgeries and skin augmentations can also be reversed to a point where they look almost exactly as they did before the surgery. However, unlike botox, these reversals also require another surgery to be done in order to be altered again. And depending on how much the surgeon is required to go back in time, this reversal procedure may be as complex as the original one.

Can You Copy Someone Else’s Plastic Surgery Look?

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Asian Plastic Surgery, Korean Plastic Surgery, Plastic Surgery News

Although you are more than welcome to get your inspiration for your plastic surgery look from anywhere, it should at all times remain an ‘inspiration’, and not a conviction that you would like to copy the exact same look that some else has. There are a number of reasons why this will surely not work out well in the end, but perhaps one of the most important reasons is that you are an individual that cannot be copied by anyone else, and no one else can copy you. Before you even attempt to understand this, take it as a very positive reassurance that you are a unique person, and that whatever you decide that you would like to change about yourself should still only be done in a way that will reflect who you are and not who someone else is.

PLASTIC SURGERY CAN HELP, BUT CANNOT COPY

Regardless of what anyone else tries to tell you, plastic surgery cannot make an exact copy of someone else’s procedure on your body, because they are two completely different bodies. This should go without saying, but some of the many things that affect this are body shape, skin condition, general health and bone structure. Additionally, the way that a plastic surgery procedure heals after it has been done will also be very different among different people, which is another reason why you would never be able to get the same results as someone else. In light of this information, always bear in mind that you should try to adapt every procedure in a way that will best suit your body type. Luckily, this is something that your surgeon will already know and will likely warn you in advance if you describe your ideal procedure as ‘I want to look like this person’.
