What We Can Learn From Cosmetic Surgery Statistics in 2014

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Korean Plastic Surgery

what we can learn from cosmetic surgery in 2014As it has been detailed by the Washington Post,  tourists from China are choosing Seoul to be their first choice when it comes to shopping and cosmetic surgery in Asia.

The Korea Times mentioned a lack of diversity in  tourists coming into Seoul, and figures from the Korea tourism organisation found that 52.1 percent of the 1,454, 078 foreign visitors in 2012 came from China alone.

This is not true though.  Part of the remaining 47.9 percent includes Singaporeans who  are also choosing to get gangnam plastic surgery, instead of getting it done in their homeland. What's concerning though,  is a report by The Straits Times,  whose findings suggest that a third of Singaporean youth find plastic surgery to be perfectly OK, while not knowing much at all about the very real risks and possible consequences that come with it.

This is for all those youths out there who have their minds set on transforming their appearances.

Perhaps this is a good time to gather information rather than simply listen to whatever you're told - - the benefits of cosmetic surgery or to look for the best bargain - -  let's put all that aside for a minute now. Rather  than just putting all your time and effort into  searching for the best clinic,  staying well-informed of the latest techniques,  the risks and possible complications  is just as  important simply because how can you know that you are being treated fairly here?  That you are getting your money's worth?  That you do not have some health condition that could put your life in grave danger.? You might have heard of those scare stories on forums now,  from disillusionment to claims that doctors have simply ignored their pleas, post-surgery. Don't let that happen to you!

There are entire communities and resources online where you can to read up, make consultations with respectable professionals in the field,  and join in on discussions!

A Third of Youth in Singapore Say OK to Plastic Surgery

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Korean Plastic Surgery

a third of singaporean youth say ok to plastic surgeryAs Korean entertainment and media gained world-wide popularity over the years, Gangnam plastic surgery followed suit in that direction. Lately, there’s been news that North Korea has been modernizing their services at restaurants, even offering free cosmetic surgery to its waitresses.
According to statistics by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute in 2012, more Chinese than Americans enter the country for beauty purposes, and a contemporary study by the Singapore Medical Journal has found that a third of Singaporean youth say plastic surgery is okay to get done at their age.

In 2014, one in three youth in Singapore think it is perfectly alright to get cosmetic surgery done at their age. For every 1,400 surveyed, 14 had admitted having undergone treatments and procedures already.

The Straits Times reports, “Only 1 per cent said they have had cosmetic procedures done, mainly to the face, but the team implied that the figure could be higher.” They conclude that a major limitation to the study is how honest responders were towards it.

What’s shocking is the lack of awareness on the risks involved. “Among JC students, 52 per cent were not aware of any risks while 36 per cent of medical students too thought cosmetic procedure were harmless.”

What’s more, Dr Ng Jia Hui of Singapore General Hospital and her team said: “It is even more alarming that a large number of JC students who claimed to be aware of the risks associated with cosmetic procedures listed three risks which were incorrect."
"In general, I would not recommend cosmetic treatment for the young," she said.
Fortunately, minors wishing to undergo treatments must have their parents sign a consent form, and it is the duty of doctors to inform patients and their families about the vey real risks involved here.

Super Junior’s KyuHyun Admits to Plastic Surgery

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Korean Plastic Surgery

It’s old news now that  ethnic differences have emerged in plastic surgery – you’ll especially find this in Gangnam plastic surgery practices.

It is also a common thing now that the words Korean celebrities and plastic surgery are almost always seen together in the news.

So it’s almost unsurprisingly that according to HelloKpop (who got it from NewsEn), Super Junior’s Kyuhyun had admitted to plastic surgery. All this happened in the Super Junior special of Byul Baragi, hosted on the 18th of September by Kang Ho-dong.

Kyuhyun’s high school photo was shown during the show.

He replied, “What’s the matter? Only one place changed. I didn’t have double eyelids on both eyes.” According to him, his appearance was pretty okay and he was in a school band.

This is no special occurrence, as it is highly suspected that plenty of Korean celebrities have gotten at least one of the following done: their eyes, nose, chin, skin, fat, breasts or even their teeth revamped. When it comes to career opportunities and succeeding in society, South Korea is perhaps one of the only nations that values the individual's image much more than raw talent. Funny enough, a decade or two ago, getting cosmetic surgery done was not commonplace and was often talked about in hushed tones.

Over the years, it is no longer considered a taboo subject, and is embraced by both the youth and old alike.

Thai Women Undergo Jaw Surgery in Latest Episode of ‘Let Me In’

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Korean Plastic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery in Korea is hugely popular in Asia, so popular that there are now make-over television shows such as “Let Me In”. There’s even a show that features reverse plastic surgery, and it’s titled “Back to My Face”.

On September 4, an episode of “Let Me In” had featured two Thai girls who both had surgery to get rid of a misaligned jaw. For those not in the loop, the general premise behind the show is that men and women try to convince the show’s hosts that they need surgery, sharing their experiences which are oftentimes filled with a history of bullying or discrimination due to a physical abnormality.

It was no exception with these girls, Nichakorn Kuhachit and Nisanat Tangdat, the two women chosen out of 2,000 applications to be flown over to Korea for Gangnam plastic surgery.

According to RocketNews24, Nichakorn Kuhachit was teased with the nickname “Monkey” due to her prominent underbite. In addition to correcting the underbite, the surgeons had also removed a tumour that was found on her chest.

Below: Nisanat on the other hand, had several procedures done but also transformed her five-mm underbite.

An over bite or an underbite is no fun, as reflected in Jodie Harts’ case where her underbite was so severe she couldn’t even eat an apple. Fixing the jawline has both medical and aesthetic purposes, but not everyone would agree on that since it is considered an invasive form of surgery. But to each their own. All in all, it’s nice to see women gain a renewed sense of empowerment in their daily lives.

3 Wrong Reasons to Get Cosmetic Surgery

Written by Seoul TouchUp. Posted in Korean Plastic Surgery

3 wrong reasons to get cosmetic surgerySince the early 2000’s, the Korean medical tourism industry has seen a growing popularity in Asia. It is so popular a destination now for girls to have fun and get rejuvenated.

So, you’ve probably already heard about the best destinations in Asia to get cosmetic surgery, or the before and after care tips required for say double eyelid surgery, one of the trendiest procedures in Seoul’s Gangnam plastic surgery practices. But, when is the best time or situation to even consider cosmetic procedures and when is getting cosmetic procedures a sensible investment?

The most common reason why someone chooses to go under the knife includes:

(a) I want to look like this movie star.
(b) My nose still isn’t perfect.
(c) People will love me.

Why are we talking about this, today? We want to remind anyone who is considering this investment, to also consider the potential pitfalls.

There is really no “perfect” nose aside from grotesque deformities. For aesthetic reasons and more importantly, medical ones, too.  Okay, maybe the next revision rhinoplasty may just make it look more like what you had envisioned it to be. But what if it doesn’t? This is a reality for many, as evidenced by a study on cosmetic rhinoplasty and its revision rates. In this case, it may be helpful to bring along images for reference to the surgeon. During discussion and consultation – see if your expectations for the surgery’s results are doable and realistic.

Who hasn’t heard of Hang Mioku and her tragic case of cosmetic surgery gone wrong where enough just wasn’t enough? This a potential pitfall for reason B – not being satisfied after surgery, even if the surgery was considered a success, as in the picture shown to the surgeon was what you got at the end.

Finally, the most tragic of all reasons to get cosmetic surgery is the belief that it will make you loveable as a person. It is true that physical appearance is harshly appraised in modern South Korean society, where talent and education is put second place during interviews. A pretty face is attractive, but an ugly personality and character is not. You’ve heard that line a lot. Think about the time where you’ve felt the most free and happy. Was it when someone complimented on your hair, or their showing appreciation for your words and deeds?

Also, an ugly personality does not necessarily mean an ugly heart. Do you skimp on meals to invest towards cosmetic surgery? What we mean here is, we’re not able to perform at our best when we lack energy! That’s your health you’re sacrificing! Remember that you’ll definitely need to be in good health to even undergo surgery!
