Korean Teens Resort to DIY V-line Face Surgery Enhancements

Written by Chelsea Kim. Posted in Korean Plastic Surgery

v line face surgeryRight now, some Korean teenager is reaching across the table for his or her “jaw-rolling squeezing device” – a dubious DIY solution for these kids who are unable to afford v-line face surgery. Teenagers are buying these tools online, and children as young as elementary-school aged, are using them as well.

There’s even something that these teenagers are using to replace double eyelid surgery: an eccentric-looking eye device that forces their eyes to stay open, without blinking. Besides eyelid surgery, Korean rhinoplasty is another procedure that is commonly requested; In their culture, a raised nose bridge is perceived as desirable. You've guessed it right; there is also a DIY widget for that.

Why do these teenagers choose to do this? Perhaps, these teenagers think that the pain they gain from these products are minor and are less life-threatening, as compared to the actual cosmetic procedures themselves. There’s that, and they’re inexpensive too – as low as $2. But, how effective are these substitutes? As of yet, not many have reported any significant, permanent injuries from these DIY processes. I mean, these tools are still being distributed and sold!

Why These DIY Tools Could Be Life-threatening

However, it could be life-threatening. The possibility is always there. According to social psychologist, Carl Sustein, human beings may experience a cognitive bias called “probability neglect”. It is our inability to properly grasp a proper sense of peril and risk.

What am I talking about? Does anyone remember the horrific case of the woman who injected cooking oil into her own face after doctors refused to give her any more plastic surgery?

Hypothetically speaking, if we leave an obsessed person alone in a room with very ordinary and everyday items, they could really hurt themselves.

You may ask, then, “Are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment?” and you are right to question: Most cosmetic procedures come with risks and they’re not cheap too. However, it is always advisable to not take the shortcut in this case. For your well-being, it is best to only sought out the services of the professional, certified and experienced.
