The aim of the Asian double eyelid surgery is to create a fold in poorly defined or asymmetrical eyelids. In most cases, there will be minimal or no fat removal at all.

It is not to be confused with blepharoplasty: this is a technique developed much earlier and the operation involves the removal of excessive, stretched, redundant or poorly positioned skin and fat.

The answer is no. The misconception with Asian double eyelid surgery is that patients want a Caucasian or Westernized result. The truth is, Caucasian eyes would look out of place and mismatched on an Asian face, simply because of the general anatomical difference between Caucasians and Asians.

The goal in having an Asian double eyelid surgery is to beautify the eyes either through the creation of a double fold, removal of epicanthic folds (skin folds of the upper eyelid covering inner corner of the eye) and/or having a bigger eye opening.
