Things to be Aware of Before and After Eyelid Surgery

Things to be Aware of Before and After Eyelid Surgery

A number of Asian countries are par with western countries in terms of industrialization, and dominance in the fields of technology and entertainment. This has brought about a transformation in how Asians perceive westerners, and vice versa. On the other hand, Asians are now more exposed to the western culture, which has changed their aesthetic sense of what beauty means. The identification of Asians to westerners, particularly in the field of entertainment, has increased the demand for cosmetic procedures in Asia. They now accept and highly regard the western beauty standards.

Because Asian eyes are very distinctive, due to inherent factors, eyelid surgeries such as blepharoplasty, epicanthoplasty, and lateral canthoplasty, and double eyelid fold surgery, have become very popular procedures for people of Asian descent. As its popularity surges, more Asian men and women are contemplating undergoing eye cosmetic surgery. Just like other cosmetic procedures, preparations before and after eyelid surgery and following doctor’s instructions are as important as the surgery itself!

What should I do when I have decided to undergo eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery can really make a difference in your own self perception and how others see you. If you have decided to undergo eyelid surgery, it would be best for you to consult your friends who have undergone this procedure, visit internet forums, and make your own research before you decide where and who is going to perform the procedure. Your first consultation is very crucial, and pre-operative preparations must be discussed before going further.

Your doctor can alleviate your hesitations and fears, by explaining the entire procedure to you.  You must be in tip top condition, even if it is a simple procedure. If you are taking any form of medication, disclose this too. Although the surgery is very simple and almost risk free, there are still certain things you must follow to avoid unnecessary complications.

What should I expect after the eyelid surgery?

If you have discussed everything with your doctor before the procedure, then you know that you will experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the areas surrounding the eyes.  This is very normal, and should not make you feel discouraged or disappointed. Be sure to follow doctor’s orders, and take your medications religiously.

Depending on the procedure you have undergone, change will not be visible in the days or the weeks to follow. A realistic expectation on this matter will help you ease your fears and remain optimistic. Just like any other cosmetic procedures, the change will come slowly, but when it does, you will realize there was nothing to be afraid of, and that your eyelid surgery is worth the discomfort and the cost.
